He was born in 1540, in Tavistock, Devon. He was the son of Edmund Drake and his wife. He was named after Francis Russell. Drake died on 28 January, 1596 of dysentery off the Porto Pueblo, Panama and he got buried on the sea. He was an English slave voyaged. He was a life time enemy of the spanish because two boats were lost when attacked by the spanish. He traveled in the west coast of South America, sacking spanish ports. He continued north hoping to find a way to cross the Atlantic. I think he was afaid of the legent of the sea monsters or maybe not comeing alive to see his family agen.
